Biography:
Dr Fernando J. Diaz Lopez has been working at TNO for 10 years as senior advisor in eco-innovation, circular economy and transitions to sustainability. He currently supports the managing director of TNO Caribbean in the implementation of the Sustainability, Energy and Innovation programme for Latin America and the Caribbean. A Mexican national, Fernando holds a PhD in international development (University of East Anglia, 2009), a MPhil in economics and management of innovation (Universidad Autonoma Metropolitana, 2002) and a Bachelor degree in Chemical Engineering (Universidad Autonoma del Estado de Mexico, 2000). With over 15 years of professional experience Fernando has authored nearly 100 publications and has been involved in over 30 projects and studies for the European Commission, the OECD, the IFC, U.N. Environment, the Dutch Government, the Basque Government, the Mexican Council of Science and Technology CONACYT and the Mexican Senate. Prior to working in applied research and consultancy Fernando worked as an environmental engineering in the chemical industry. In the year 2012 Fernando received the “National Award for Social Sciences and Public Opinion Research – runner up” from the General Congress of Mexico for his contributions to the field of green economy. Currently, Fernando coordinates the H2020 Green.eu project funded by the European Commission’s H2020 programme, which has created the Innovation for Sustainable Development Network. See: www.inno4sd.net. Fernando is president of the advisory board of Causa Natura (http://causanatura.org), a Mexican think-thank working on policies for the conservation of forests and oceans. Fernando was a member of the Mexican System of Researchers from the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT) in the period 2008-2017. He has an honorary affiliation as associate professor extraordinary in sustainability systems by the University of Stellenbosch, in South Africa.
